Storyboard

Pre film

This is the storyboard that I have created for my cooking show shoot. It outlines all of the shots that I will be using. It will be a 3 camera setup.

After Filming

Graphics (opening sequence):

Using footage from my testing multi-camera at the begging of the project I placed it behind my title. I believe it adds a stylistic graphic to end the opening sequence with. The point of this screen is to hold the final completed meal behind the title. It acts as a teaser to the show and makes you want to find out how to create it.

Above shows how I am using the following tools:

This is allowing me to change the exposure in my video as I believe it is too dark on Camera 1. To change this I added a Brightness & Contrast effect. After playing with the controls I was able to find a suitable colour that isn't over exposed but doesn't give this unwanted darkness conveying a different tone.
Colour Grade

I was shown how to use an adjustment layer to colour grade. The reason this helped me was to stop whites in certain shots bleeding. Bleeding is where a certain colour is standing out so much that it loses its original colour and is extremely bright. The issue that occurred in my production is that you can

To give my show a feel that is more of a real television show I am going to include an indent that will be in the top right of the show. It will appear at the start of the show and stay during the whole of it.

Filming

My filming was on November 6th. For my shoot I had booked a Go-Pro which was going to be used for my top down shot. Unfortunately it was being used even though I had booked it and I could only film at the 1.30pm slot otherwise it would mean waiting a week however the production deadline is this week ending November 10th. The reason I wanted a top down view was to allow you too see what is going on inside the pans. To move around this problem we encountered I had one of the crew members (Lewis Hawthorne) Do handheld camera movements to allow you to see in the pan.

It worked very well as we were able to have Lewis move the camera freely to my direction. At the end when Jonathan had finished cooking the meal and served it up Lewis was able to get a close-up of the food which worked very well.

I made sure that there was a camera directly looking at Jonathan so he can retain the eye contact with it as he is talking to the audience (Camera being operated by Charley)

The tripod shown lower levelled here was where a cameras was as well. It was right at the end when we decided to use hand held.

The filming process

When filming I had to signal Lewis when to enter with the camera in his hand to film the pans and the food cooking inside it as it comes into frame from camera 1 so that footage is unusable while he is in frame. But as I gave him signals it allowed him to enter and exit fluently and the footage is very suitable during the process of filming Jonathan on the stove. A go pro would have provided a lot better quality of footage however this did work well for a quick solution. This problem did occur during the hiring out of the equipment so to counter it we took another Panasonic camera.

During the filming there were no major issues that occurred and all the camera's were JAM Synced perfectly and they were synced. JAM syncing is where you set all of your cameras to the same time code. To do this you navigate through the menu to find TC (time code). Once in the time code section you can either choose free run or record run. Free run is where the time code will be constantly running once the TC is set even if not recording. This is usually used for synchronising to the current time and it will follow that. Record run also known as Rec run is where the time code is set and only moves when the camera is recording. In either section you are able to set a time code and you want to have all cameras set on the same time code otherwise it will not be synced for a multi-camera edit unless you use audio synchronisation. The problem with audio sync is that it can be off sometimes and then you don't have another alternate. In our shoot we used Rec Run and set each time code to 01:00:00:00. With rec run you have a very clear time code to match the start to so if needed you can make adjustments in post production to get a synced video.

Lighting

With the lighting we brought 2 LED's . Originally I didn't plan to use any additional lighting as the kitchen is very well lit However, it gave more light on Jonathan's face. It made him more prominent in the shot.

above you can see where we decided to place the LED's. We had One LED side on to Jonathan to provide light upon the cutting board as well as providing light when the shot is on the stove. The other was placed front on to Jonathan so light is shone on his face and clothes to stand out in the shot. During post production I believe the light that shone head on to Jonathan was ineffective as the shot was underexposed so it has been tweaked in post production. In the future I am going to make sure that the shot is well lit and the shot isn't underexposed and needs to be adjusted to a light now being in shot. We did White balance after the LED's were on so it was correctly white balanced.

In the future I am going to make sure that I check all the screens of the cameras to make sure that it is framed correctly as during a section of the filming the camera displaced and ended up cutting out the preparation area.

Audio

When editing my piece I noticed the audio peaked and was distorted in certain areas which I wanted to attempt to fix. By using the parametric equaliser I was able to alter certain ambient sounds and in areas of the sequence have my subjects voice stand out and in other areas the sound of him preparing ingredients, using the saucepan etc. stood out a lot and didn't require the addition of SFX. The audio is synced perfectly so there is no differentiation in visual and audio. I also used the DeEsser to remove more of the background noise being made my students.
